Walking in the Holy Spirit

You cannot live a Godly life and work the way God wants you to walk in this life unless you understand how God works in your life. You need the Holy Spirit for this, not once, not twice but always.

One of the purposes of the Holy Spirit is to interpret the word of God to us appropriately. As a child of God, the Holy Spirit should be your first counsellor. When a true man of God teaches, he teaches from the revelations of the Holy Spirit and for a true believer to understand and act accordingly he understands also from the revelations of the Holy Spirit. Just as the preacher needs the Holy Spirit to preach, the listener needs the Holy Spirit to help him grasp the right meaning.

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

He teaches us. This means he tells us what we need to know and reminds us what we need to remember in order to do what we ought to do.

To be filled with the Holy Spirit, therefore, means total submission to God’s word and guidance as we submit to the Holy Spirit. This means being sensitive to the promptings of the spirit which are also commands of the King of Kings. These commands are the oppose the carnal mind.

Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

The walk in the Holy Spirit is, therefore, a walk for those who have set their minds to obey and only act on God’s word and promptings, not their carnal minds to fulfil their selfish desires. The Holy Spirit gives guidance to those who are willing to do the will of God instead of their own will.

Therefore in walking with the Holy Spirit you have to first submit yourself to God for the will of God. Then the Holy Spirit will teach you how to resist evil and obey God.

James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

To live a righteous life, therefore, to walk with the Holy Spirit all we need to do is be willing to forsake our own will for the will of God and to obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit to do that which is the will of God. Thereby eternal life awaits us.

Isaiah 1:19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land.
